February 3, 2025 [Denver, North Carolina] – The Musical Pathways Initiative, presented by the North Carolina Youth Orchestra, kicked off 2025 with a visit to Lincoln Charter School. In this interactive and engaging assembly, NCYO Executive Director, Eric Boruff, Brass Ensemble Director Tom Burge, Junior Woodwind Ensemble Director Nick Ritter, and Administrator April Dunn, introduced students to a variety of orchestral instruments such as the violin, cello, trombone, trumpet, bassoon, and more.
MPI is designed to provide elementary aged-students in the Lake Norman area the access and opportunity to learn a musical instrument. Almost all local school systems do not give students the opportunity to participate in band or orchestra until 6th grade which means many children are not exposed to musical instruments until middle school. MPI provides this otherwise underserved group the chance to see and experience some of the area’s most qualified musicians perform a wide range of orchestral instruments.
Students are also invited to attend Instrument Discovery Day where they can try all of the instruments under the guidance of the NCYO artistic faculty and student volunteers.
Musical Pathways Initiative is grateful to all of its generous sponsors for help making its mission a success. This assembly was made possible by James Funeral Home in Huntersville. If you or your business would like to sponsor an MPI assembly, click here
