February 8, 2025 [Davidson, North Carolina] – NCYO began the concert at Davidson United Methodist Church with a captivating display of talent, as four chamber pieces set the tone for the evening. Chamber music is played by a small ensemble, with one musician to a part. The concert featured Duet # 4 from 12 Duets for Violin and Viola by Robert Fuchs performed by James Welsh (violin) and Ella Kuzara (viola), A Winter’s Willow by Ralph Vaughan Williams performed by Trey Parrish (flute), Aiden Natal (clarinet), and Tallulah Wafer (bassoon), Tango from España by Isaac Albéniz performed by DeAndra Molina (flute), Owen Hoopes (clarinet), and Tallulah Wafer (bassoon), and Andante Melodique, OP. 214 by Charles Dancia performed by Jacob Pecoraro (violin), Tristan Thompson (cello), and Anya White (piano). Audience members enjoyed Poet and Peasant Overture by Franz von Suppé as the orchestra came together to close out the evening.
Playing chamber music differs from playing in an orchestra and fosters unique skills. Unlike in an orchestra performance in which the conductor typically introduces the pieces, one student from each group introduced their piece giving them the opportunity to speak in front of an audience. Students were also able to strengthen their collaboration and listening skills and adaptability. Chamber music involves working closely with other musicians, requiring the ability to communicate musically and to adjust to different styles, while providing students the opportunity to connect with the audience on a more intimate level. This experience teaches patience, respect for others’ contributions, and the ability to blend individual strengths into a cohesive sound. These performances enhance students’ technical abilities and deepen their understanding of musical expression, rhythm, and harmony making them an indispensable part of any student’s musical development. NCYO is dedicated to cultivating a supportive environment in which students can grow and gain confidence in their craft through a variety of performing opportunities, including chamber, full orchestral settings, and more.
